CHIEF JOOPBERKHOUT OON

Executive Chairman


Born in Amsterdam on the 31st of March, 1930.

He was the founding Managing Director of Evans Brothers in 1967 and went ahead to establish Spectrum Books Ltd in 1978.

Married with three sons, a daughter, eight grand children and adopted son.

He retired as Chairman Spectrum Books in September 2008 and now running Safari Books Limited which was established in 1991 with his adopted son, George Berkhout.

Chief Joop Berkhout has many publications to his credit and also promoted the Nigerian educational sectors and for his contribution he was awarded a national honour "Officer of the Order of the Niger" OON

He was awarded a chieftaincy title "Okun Borede of Ife in 1992. He trained several publishers who are doing well in publishing industry.

Chief Joop Berkhout is regarded as the doyen in the publishing world.

He is currently the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing council Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Agbahra - Delta State.
